PRESS RELEASE
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. November 14, 2009 at Niagara Falls High School, 4455 Porter Road, the District, in conjunction with Buffalo State College and Niagara University (NU), will hold its fourth annual Literacy, Math, and Science Fair for children in grades Pre-Kindergarten to six.
The Fair features activity stations designed for fun and each reinforcing a New York State Learning Standard in one of the aforementioned subject areas. Stations are designed, produced, and manned by education students from either Buffalo State or NU. Each activity is able to be easily reproduced at home so students can continue fun and learning after the Fair.
There will also be a Scholastic Book Fair taking place at the event, and raffles in which children might win prizes, including a desktop computer donated by Lenovo.
The event is free and open to all. In the first three years, attendance has grown steadily; last year more than 400 children attended.
“This is a truly collaborative event,” said Kathy Urban, District instructional coach and chair of the committee organizing the event. “It not only provides family fun and reinforces what students learn in the classroom, it also provides an opportunity for applied learning by the education students.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the event and is encouraged to enter Niagara Falls High School via Door #3 for greatest convenience.
