Niagara Homecoming Events

Niagara Homecoming was our mission for 2009.  Now in 2011 it is one aspect of our mission including our goal to spur Economic Development, build bridges with the local schools and improve housing.

History of Niagara Homecoming

It is an extension of Buffalo Homecoming and a direct result of the work that member Colleen Kulikowski with both Niagara Rises and Buffalo Homecoming 2008.   At the end of the Buffalo Homecoming 2008, Colleen mentioned that Niagara Falls should do something like this.   Encourage by Marti Gorman she took the concept to the Niagara Rises group.

The group looking for a mission and a reason to celebrate all that is positive in Niagara Falls took on the development of Niagara Homecoming.

More about the event will be posted at Niagara Homecoming website, but let’s just say it is historical that Buffalo and Niagara Falls are embracing each other and committed to producing a great event!

          Throughout the Year

We have hundreds of volunteers all giving of their time without compensation. It is a labor of love and the thousands of man hours that go into it are designed to give the city of Niagara Falls a Homecoming it can be most proud of.

In addition to that signature event, Niagara Rises conducts a monthly “Still Fallin’ for the Falls” mixer. That event rotates each month and is always held at one of the city’s fine restaurants or taverns. The location supplies food free of charge and drinks are purchased at an open bar. The vents are designed at networking opportunities and usually draw 100 plus attendees.

Niagara Rises will be working with the United Way in December to put on the “Festival of Lights” display at Hyde Park in the center of the city. For 6 weeks a nightly free light display will be presented for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Niagara Rises will be partnering with Niagara University to conduct a freshman orientation tour in August of each year. The idea is to show incoming students our world-famous waterfalls, but also introduce them to local employers and politicians. The hope is that we can do a much better job of retaining these students in our community post-graduation.
